I upgraded from 5.0 something to 6.1 I did the backup, update, restore. I had some old old pictures saved in another file instead of camera roll. They are missing now on the phone. Any way to recover them? Thanks.

What do you mean another file? Were they sync'd from your computer? If so, they are on your computer.

No they were moved from an old blackberry to an iphone and to this iphone. They were not on my computer even though i told them to sync. I had them stored in a different album than Camera roll. All the past times of updating it stored and moved everything over. This time it did not for some reason.

If your photos are managed by an app like Safety P+V they are included in an iTunes or iClod backup as all app specific folders are backed up. So if you restore all your apps the data of these apps are also restored.
That's the way backups of iOS devices work and it's not a question of syncing objects.
Syncing in iTunes does not apply to app specific folders (usually the folder 'documents' with in the sandbox of an app. If you want to transfer data from these folders to your computer you have to use the File Sharing feature of iTunes.

How were they moved from the original Blackberry to your iPhone? Other than a specific app, the only way to get photos on your iPhone (other than into your camera roll) is by syncing to a computer.

Yes, and i synced with my computer which had those pics on it. Then the Hard Drive crashed on my computer. So the only place i had those pics was on my phone. I never synced back to the computer because it always told me that it would erase what was on the phone and i did not want that.

In that case, they are gone. The only way to have gotten them off before was to email them back to yourself. Since you lost the source, and then lost the backup...they're gone. Photos sync'd from a computer aren't backed up to iCloud.
