iTunes match battery impact?

I have been living with some pretty lackluster battery for some time and I'm just trying to go down the list. As I think about potential issues, I consider my music library. I have a fairly large collection ( about 35-40gb) on my iTunes. The overwhelming majority of that is not physically on my phone however, I have it set to show all music.

Could this be an issue? I'm not too familiar with the actual logistics of iCloud but I am imagining a list if thousands of songs that is basically constantly looking for a change to reflect to respective devices. That sounds like a drain to me, but I'm just not sure on what. iCloud servers or our actual devices?

What would good iTunes match practice be, as far as battery life is concerned? I am determined to find the issue that kills my phone halfway through the day!

Thoughts?
