Can I use an iPhone 4 otterbox with a 4s?

My mom has an otterbox defender for iphone 4 that she hates because it is bulky and I was wondering if it is ok for the 4s. I put it on and it seemed fine and the camera worked fine. Is this just a scam from otterbox to get them to buy a new case or will this pose problems for me?

You should be just fine - they did make better refinements for the camera opening and stiffer silicone around the case

As long as it's the CDMA model case for the 4, it should be fine.

The proximity sensor has moved which is why there is a 4s case. The 4 will fit, but you may have problems with the screen not dimming or when you're on a phone call, the screen not locking when it's close to your face.
