How does Adobe Flash announcement affect iPhone/iPad

I assume this is a good thing for iOS devices but just not sure how.

There will still be flash for android and RIM. 11.x is the most recent version. They aren't going to pull it from the app stores each company has. This isn't a big deal until sites start requiring the latest version of flash, which sites I have come across haven't required the latest and greatest.

It really doesn't affect iPad/iPhone all that much, bec we didn't have it on those devices. Personally I am thrilled. I think flash sucks, and I judge companies and "designers" that use it negatively, because it's not stable and it's annoying as HELL. It's a tool to get around good coding and design, laziness.

So yea. That's my soapbox.

It doesn't affect iOS in the slightest. This is not a victory for Steve Jobs. Apple decided to go with html5, they didn't invent it. Its only a victory if it benefits apple more than other companies. It doesn't. This is like vhs taking over betamax. Bluray vs HD dvd. Usb vs ps2. It benefits everyone if its a better technology and becomes the standard.

RIM (the Playbook) actually doesnt have flash.. it uses Adobe AIR/HTML 5 - which i believe AIR & Flash play nicely with each other for the most part.. just that AIR is much more efficient.

I think Adobe has seen that the Air/Html5 combo on the playbook works great and may be behind the decision to go this route for future device development.

im not sure how Jobs "Won" at all.. i think that truly a number of people who wanted flash on the tablet wouldve bought an iPad if it had it... but instead went to Android/BBX


now.. the question is.. will the iPad3 have Air/Html5 ability like the Playbook so you will finally be able to see flash content on the web?

RIM (the Playbook) actually doesnt have flash.. it uses Adobe AIR/HTML 5 -

RIM is developing flash in-house.

it doesn't affect apple since they're always been against flash anyway. it is a victory since steve jobs came out and took a stance against flash and adobe came back arguing that flash is a better way. now, adobe has conceded.

I'm finding that HTML5 is becoming more common any way. There are quite a few sites that I could not view completely on my iPad or BB Torch. But now I can view them on both. This is changing more and more as time goes by as more sites are offering content in HTML5

Never mind... I found it.... Most interesting to say the least. Flash was made available to Android just over a year ago or so. Before they got it, users were clamoring to get it. I imagine there's some really PO'd people on the other side of the tracks to say the least!!!

For the most part, it really hasn't pissed anyone off or caused any inconvenience. If they were to remove it from the market, yeah, I think there would be a load of angry Android users.

Basically, they just said they won't be updating the application anymore. I still fail to see how this is a win for Jobs.. Aging technology loses support and someone saw it coming.. Big Surprise! I think most iOS users would prefer to have the option of Flash player 11 over no Flash at all. I know I would..

It's a win for Steve because he stuck to what he knew was right while everyone else took advantage of it and said "WE HAZ DAH FLAYUSH AND APPUL WUNT LET U HAZ IT CUZ DEY STOOPID". Now Adobe finally realized that Flash was only present because it was possible, but it wasn't nearly as good an experience as HTML5 and embedded content.

On the Android devices that supported flash, it felt like they were using flash just because they could. For example on YouTube, embedded video is faster, looks a lot better, gives proper full-screen, allows easy seeking controls, etc. YouTube through Flash on a mobile device is a straight up disaster in terms of usability.

And it's a win now for everyone because web developers will take the complete lack of flash on mobile devices more seriously than they take it now.

Funnily enough, nearly EVERY porn site already has an HTML5 and/or iPhone/iPad compatible version of their site.

Not so. Wife's droid incredible is fantastic with flash sites. My Thunderbolt on LTE was as fast as Chrome or Firefox on a flash site.

Obviously it does not appeal to all, which is why I said "most". For me, I would like flash because nothing on the web irritates me more than coming to a page that says "This site requires Adobe Flash Player. Please download the latest version"

The old versions of flash did indeed drain the battery. Since flash version 10.2, there is absolutly no added battery drain.

@Jellotime91 - Embedded YouTube videos most definitely do run more fluidly without Flash. That's a fact. Other sites like Newgrounds stream perfectly, though. Although Flash is aging tech, it will be around on the web for at least the next 5 years. Maybe once all of the Flash content is off the web, Steve will have been right, and there won't be a need for it on a mobile device. Until then, you only have limited access to the web without it.

flash works better on mobile when its streamed from a server I use the photon browser and it uses a computer to stream the flash to you works great for the most part
