Apple Store Preorders Shipping from Chine?

In February, my Verizon iPhone that I had preordered shipped from China. Are these preorders also shipping from China? I have read numerous threads showing they are leaving from carrier warehouses, but I haven't seen anything showing where Apple Store preorders are shipping from...

When I called Apple to update my order yesterday (preordered from Apple.ca directly, factory unlocked), they told me they ship from China.

Oddly, when I asked how much it was to upgrade to two-day shipping as opposed to the free slow-ass shipping I had originally, they only charged me........get this..........$13.

One thing I can't figure out is that if you preorder in the USA, they ship it to arrive at your door on the 14th. If you order it from Canada like I did, they ship it ON the 14th. Huh? That makes no sense to me.
