I actually think this device looks gorgeous, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is what Apple came out with for the 8GB iPhone 4 instead of keeping the same expensive construction.

That is the version I would prefer out of the options shown off. Hopefully the IP3GS becomes your 8GB freebie, IP4 16GB version and IP5 becomes the 32GB & 64GB variants or just drop the 3GS altogether. I prefer my storage local so I am not reliant on the cellular network to get my streaming media over 3G (unless we get LTE (Verizon))

Agree this is a really nice design and really seems like something apple would come out with.

I agree. It's not that it is ugly, it's just taking the design in the wrong direction.
