In the official iOS 5 video they're talking about adding a camera button to the lock screen. But as soon as he presses it it cuts away and then back. Does this mean they're not addressing the camera opening speed?

regarding the camera opening speed, on iOS 5 beta 3, it appears to be the same as it was on 4.3.3, maybe a little faster??

i guess we'll have to wait and see once the final release is out

It's beta and there are plenty of camera issues. It's usually one of the biggest bugs in beta versions. Here are some that I notice:

1. Camera shutter doesn't open (reset fixes it)
2. It forgets HDR settings each time
3. It will lock up, needing a reset
4. Camera roll has an issue with thumbnail cache
5. More minor ones

This will be cleared up.

Hmm. I just thought it was funny that they seemingly cut away on purpose. Because if they had let it do it's thing it would have took forever and looked bad on their part.

They are a company making money so we can't expect them to show something that will look slow and laggy even if it is running beta software. On the iPad 2 even though it has a camera I wonder why we don't get the camera from the lockscreen. I was having horrible times with pictures on beta 2 but on beta 3 it all seems to be working fine so far.
