iphone 4 service and connection issues - iMessage and Apple ID

Have you tried turning iMessage off and hard reset your phone by holding down the Power and Home button until the Apple logo appears and then let go. When back on turn on iMessage to see if it works now. There are no outages with Apple's Status page as of now.
