Switching iPhones from 4 to 5 when released

I am planning to get an iPhone 5 when it is released an give my iPhone 4 to my wife.
Is there a way to restore contacts,compatible apps etc after getting my new iPhone 5? Is it as easy as backing up my iPhone 4 prior to the switch and restoring from iTunes with a different phone, my new iPhone5 when it arrives? Thanks!
