1) Is there any way to make your battery life better?
2) Are there apps that even if they aren't being used that can cause the batter life on a phone to be terrible.
Less than a week ago i have a 3Gs and decided to trade phones with my dad instead of waiting a few months to get an upgrade. My batter life on the 3Gs was terrible. I would wake up at 8am and by 12 it needed to be charged again. The iPhone 4 was basically brand new. It could last almost a whole day without needing to be charged. Now that i have the iPhone 4 with all my apps on it the battery life seem to be worse than before i had it. its not as bad as the 3Gs.

These are some of the things that I've done with my my iPhone 4 to help keep my battery life optimized. It is 17 months old and I still get 7 hours of usage and 18 to 24 hours of standby time out of it.

Sounds like you have an app running in the backround that is killing your battery.
If you had it on your old device, then restored it to the new device, this would explain why you still have poor battery life.
Wipe the device, then slowly start adding your apps. Do maybe 5 a day. If you have good battery life, the next day add 5 more.
Also if your in low signal area, this will cause the battery to drain faster.
If you have the ability to use WiFi, use it, that consumes less power.
