iphone4 speakers

I recently got my new iPhone4. I noticed that where I plug in my charging cord on the iPhone4, i see 2 speakers on either side of that. But when I play a song or something, the sound only comes out of the right side speaker. Is there something wrong with my device? or is this intended?

If this is intended whats the other speaker for?
