Unsync Exchange e-mail?

I am a new iPhone 4 user (former BlackBerry Tour and Bold). I love everything about my new phone, except how it handles GroupWise e-mail. Is there a way I can disable the sync between the phone and server? I would like be be able to delete e-mails on my phone, but leave them on the server.

Exchange or Groupwise? They're entirely different mail servers but the subject of your post has one while the body has the other.
