my iphone wont turn on. tried few tricks, nothing works

so my iphone turned off/ battery died on saturday night. Thought nothing of it untill i plugged it in to charge on sunday and got nothing. the screen is black and it dont respond to anything. i have tried pressing the home button and the power button but got nothing, i have tried pressing home button and plugging into itunes but got nothing. Could someone please advise if theres anything i can do? or alternatively tell me if im screwed?
Info: iphone 3gs, jailbroken, warranty has ran out.

Make sure you get into DFU mode.

Plug your iPhone into your computer.
Press and hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds.
While still holding the Home button, release the Power button.
Continue holding the home button for about 15 seconds.

The screen will remain off on your iphone but, if you?re on Windows, you will hear the connected hardware sound; if your on a Mac, iTunes will open and tell you that your iPhone is connected in ?Recovery? mode.

Did you leave it on the charger? If the battery dies it can take 5-10 minutes for it to turn on even after being plugged into the charger.
