Lotus Notes Traveler Question

OK, about to get the iPhone from Verizon and here's my question. Does our administrator need to install the Lotus Notes Traveler software on our Server before I install Traveler Companion? I've been told that in order to push emails, contacts and calender to the iPhone, I need to use Traveler to get it.
My Administrator is VERY new to the iPhone and I told him this is the only way to do it. Am I correct?

Isn't there anyone out there that gets their corporate mail from Lotus Notes?

My work (government) has Lotus Notes Traveler servers that pushed a link that asks for a certificate to be installed on my Iphone that needed to be registered which when the cert is installed automatically configured (Mail, contacts, and security settings). Did this help?
