    Default touchscreen inaccuracies

I've noticed sometimes when I'm typing in an SMS that the touchscreen is just completely inaccurate. not one or two letters off, like tapping on a letter literally does nothing or picks something from the other side of the keyboard until i exit from Messages and reopen it (FCing from taskbar not necessary).

    Anyone else experiencing this?

I don't know if the iPhone has a calibration test, if so try that, and if that doesn't work, I'd definitely take it back to Verizon for a new one.

do you have a screen protector or anything on the phone that may be touching the screen?

Something is probably wrong with the digitizer it sounds like. Might want to see Apple about it. There is no calibration like there used to be with resistitive touch screens and it has always been extremely accurate for me.

The fact that you say it's not happening to letters close by but across the screen sounds like a problem. If it was close by I would say you don't need to mash the screen.

Yeah I do have a screen protector on it, but its one of the ones you get from the apple store, and i've used them on my old 3GS and iPod touches forever. To me, it seems like a software issue since i can close out of the app and everything works fine, like I've never had a problem where i couldnt tap on an icon or anything. Just the SMS app, and only occasionally.
