If I buy one at full retail do I have to activate it at the Apple store?

I want to buy one at full retail for a relative. Will the apple store make me activate it there, or can I have them activate it when they receive the device?

It can be activated after that. You don't have to activate it when you purchase it.

You will need to connect it to iTunes to activate it. Just purchase at the store, bring it home and plug it in. Mine took about 5 minutes yesterday.
