I guess they can tack on any fees they want if people are going to still order without questioning the fees

I figured it out. They charged me CA tax for the full retail price of $749.99, instead of the $299.99 I paid. Sucks but oh well. Was this the same for everyone else?

If I were you, I'd call them so they can refund that portion of your money. You clearly got overcharged.

Verizon has always charged tax based on full retail price and not the contract price

That's actually California state law. And has been even before their current budgetary issues.

So over there if something is discounted, you still have to pay tax on the full retail? Wow that sucks. No wonder why the state is in such shambles financially. They're raping the people that live there.

Line 1 Purchased Items
(1) APPLE IPHONE 4 16GB -$50.00 NE2 discount +$10.50 tax $149.99
(1) FEDEXSTDOVERNIGHT3PM $0.00
Line 1 purchased total $160.49

And the process was super smooth. Glad I stayed up!

+1 on that! That was my cup of beans too, and ordering was smoothe...although I'm still in processing...

Is it Verizon, California or Verizon w/ California? Because from what others are reporting they paid tax on the device price for them and not full retail. So that would make me think it's California and not just VZW. Just my thoughts. But what do I know, I live in Delaware and the only taxes I pay besides income are property. Everything else tax-free baby.

2x32GB for $299.99 each
$131.24 taxes and fees
$731.22 total

I don't really understand the fees part? Taxes in my area of CA are 8.75% so it should have been only $652.48. Where did that extra $78.74 come from? I didn't add anything else.

I also live in CA. I don't know if it's just this state but we have the pay tax for the full retail price of the phone, not the promotional price. I don't understand it either.

Little irritated hearing people were able to use the NE2 discount....I was not able to use the verizon pre-order website because I kept getting an error and so I went to the Apple store and ordered. Sounds like I got dicked the 100 bucks.
