I have been thinking about this.. okay full retail is $599-$699.. Would this work and/or be a better option.. if is add a line i can get the either model at the new contract price of $199-$299 and and after activation put the iPhone on my primary line and put and old dumb phone that is not used on the new line.. the pay the $9.99 for it to just sit there and not be used. (if family comes into town that wants a local number for the time they could us it ect..) for 24 months that is only $240.. so at this time I am at $439-$539 depending on 16gb or32gb. Also i am not using my lines upgrade and can get the iPhone5 if released this summer and then the new line will be ready for an upgrade for the iPhone6.. and just cycle that way.....

isnt this a better option or am i over thinking this and it wont work at all and i just had to many tonight??

It's a good idea, I've done it before just to have an extra line and it does come in handy. Plus, like you said, that's just another line that will earn you upgrades. :)

That would work as long as you use an old "dumb" phone on the new line... otherwise they'll stick a data plan on that line and the cost would then jump from $10/month to $25-45/month and you would be losing money on the deal...

Wait a minute... going from a single line to 2 line is more than just $9.99 a month for a 2nd phone.

Not counting data:

Cheapest Single Line 450 minutes @ 39.99

Cheapest 2-Line 700 Minutes @ 69.99 (2nd phone charge of $9.99 included)

I would consider adding a line on a 1 year contract. Typically the cost difference between a 2 year and 1 year contract is only ~ $70.00.

Yes, this is only if you are on a family share plan (2-5 lines) it is only another 9.99 to add to the family plan up to five lines.

I think the OP has a family plan already - that's the impression I got anyway. If not, then you're absolutely right.

On my FamilyShare we have 3 lines currently and 1 more line will cost $9.99 + data ($29.99).

Correct already have 3 lines so thinking about adding a 4th and putting on old flip phone that my daughter had on that.. It still works but would only be used by visitors, if something happened to another phone, ect..
