Just got back from Verizon today because i was having troubles with my Blackberry (no surprise there), anyways while i was there i decided to ask about my upgrade eligibility. I can upgrade on Feb 28th, but my dad is already eligible. I remember reading somewhere (on this forum i think) about some guy that bought an iPhone from AT&T on his wife's upgrade and then had problems switching the iPhone to his number. The plan was to just take my dad's upgrade so i could be the new kid on the black with the iPhone. I wanted to check with the Verizon people to see if this was possible so i would not end up like the other guy in the forum and have to deal with Verizon all day instead of playing with my new iPhone. The clerk was not sure so she went to ask her manager. He came to talk to me and dropped the news. Apple is not allowing the switching of ESN's. I cant use my dads upgrade to get the phone on my number. I then asked well is there anyway that since i have bought 14 phones from you guys (seriously i have) that you could shorten my contract period so i would be able to upgrade on the 10th and just sign a new contract. His response was that Apple also is not allowing Verizon to do this. So it appears that i will have to wait until the 28th now, i am not a happy camper. Anyone think they have a way around this? PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Here is something that usually always works. If your a good customer (i.e. - not late on bills, etc) call 611, and ask to lower your upgrade date. The rep is going to say that they can't do that. Then say okay, let me talk to your supervisor, *DON'T GIVE THEM ANY UN-NECESSARY DETAILS* Just tell them you want to lower your upgrade date. Don't tell them you want an iPhone.
They might say no, then politely ask them why, explain to them that your a good customer etc. Again, if they say no, hang up, and call back. You will eventually get a supervisor who wants to work for your business.

Maybe the Verizon rep is telling the truth, maybe not.

My advice to you is to hit up a few different Verizon stores. This has happened to me countless number of times- I go in for something basic like wanting to change my number to a different area code from my parents and they blow me out of the water, looking at me like if I asked them a quantum physics problem in Chinese. Then I go to another store and it's yes sir, no problem, that's easy to fix.

I'm gonna try to go in person first. If things get jacked up, then I'm gonna go online. But I'm waiting for the iPhone 5, so I'm in no rush.

^^Guys, if you read the entire thread before posting you'll see that the OP already solved his problem by switching the upgrades online.. :)

another thing to remember is always go to a corporate store. DO NOT go to a "licensed retailer" They have no power. If the store has a rear counter to fix your phone its probably a corporate store

Basically, you would put a new contract on your mom's phone number on the account, and they'd activate the phone on your number. Easy-peasy.

Hello! So glad it worked out for you!

I am in kinda the same situation. My hubby's line is eligible now. Mine 10/11.When you switched, what happened to your dad's line in regards to the date he will be able to upgrade to next? Did it make it so that his line was not eligible for an upgrade for 2 years?

TIA, sorry if I did not see if you answered this already or if my question does not make sense....

My dads line now has my upgrade, which was feb 28th.

man what a pain all that is. I am thinking of an Iphone however I am on SPRINT. So I would have to switch carriers. At SPRINT you can go to any Sprint store. I have a family plan with 3 lines. When ever a line comes up for an upgrade you can get the phone you want and assign anyone of your family plan numbers to it no questions asked. That is how I get two upgrades a year. It is ashamed Verizon makes it more difficult then it should be.

What it boils down to is simple... it's their company, so they get to make the rules. As consumers, we get to vote with our wallets. Like a company or the products they offer? Become a customer (vote with your wallet)... Don't like a company, their products or their policies? Don't patronize them (vote with your wallet).
