The iPhone is NO different from any other smartphone VZW they have, except for the fact that it is an iPhone, but a smartphone none the less.

I've always done 1 year contracts @ ~ $70.00 more than the 2 year contract price with smart phones.

I don't see VZW doing anything different with the iPhone.

Yeah but apple has more control than other companies did with their phones on verizon.

If this is true, I won't be getting an iPhone. 1 year contracts are the only way to go for me.

For what its worth, I don't think Apple would try and limit their sales this way. They are all about moving as much product as they can. By locking in customers into a 2 year contract would limit their sales.

I just went to the VZW website and chatted with a rep. (See Below) According to them both 1 and 2 year contracts will be available. No my name is not Ralph.

Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Audrey
Ralph: Hello Audrey
Ralph: Are you there Audrey?
Ralph: If you are there, I can't see what you are typing... :-(
Audrey: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Audrey: How can I assist you?
Ralph: Hello..
Audrey: I apologize.
Ralph: I just have a quick question.. I can't seem to find this information on the VZW site. Will the iPhone be offered on a 1 year contract?
Ralph: Or will it only be offered on a 2 year contract?
Audrey: The iphone will be offered on a 1 and 2 year contract.
Ralph: Thank you very much. Have a great day

I was in a local Apple store this weekend. I was told no 1 year contracts. I hope the person I spoke with is wrong. My home is about 1 mile from the Verizon LTE coverage map border. I would think LTE would be available within a year in my home. That's why I can live with 3G for a year but would like to upgrade phones in a year.

I spoke to a rep today who told me that there will definitely not be a 1 year contract option at launch. He did not know if this would change later in the spring. I hope he is wrong but he seemed fairly confident. Pre-orders begin in only a few days. They should have released 1 year pricing by now if they were going to offer it.

Not having the choice of signing up for a one year contract may be a deal breaker for me as well.

I wish we would hear definitively one way or another.

It was speculated from many tech websites even before the Verizon iPhone was officially announced that Verizon would NOT be able to offer the iPhone on 1 year contracts or BOGO. It is believed Apple has some control over pricing and would not want to lover their brand value by offering those pricing deal.

AT&T does not offer 1 year contracts on the iPhone but if you buy an iPhone around launch they typically let you buy next years model at the $199 price with a new 2 year contract. Assuming that you pay your bill on time.

I hope Verizon does the same as At&T. Being stuck with the same phone for 2 years is forever in the new smartphone world.

I seem to remember a story a week or two ago on Android Central saying Verizon was scrapping the early upgrade option, can't remember when it was going into affect.

Edit: Change started January 16th. If you have a two year contract you have to wait 20 months for an upgrade or pay full retail.
