Just curious, did 3G owners get ANYTHING AT ALL from the update to 4.2? I updated my dad's 3G to 4.2 and I couldn't find anything updated, not even the word search on a Safari web page feature. ???
Also, just wondering if the 3GS that I own has Airplay or AirPrint functionality (other than the handy way my phone just autocorrected AirPrint to have a capital "P")?

Heating of IP4
Is it in my imagination, or does my phone run alot warmer after the 4.2.1 update? I've just never noticed it before, and it seems like after the update, its constant.
Hope everyone had a great and is still having a great Thanksgiving

Proximity sensor performance improved
Not sure if anyone else has posted about the proximity sensor, but it seems to work much better for me after the 4.2.1 update. I used to struggle to get the screen to turn off. Needed to hold the phone just right. But now the screen seems to shut off much more reliably...

I had the problem on iOS 4.1 where typing on the keyboard was offset. Well it's also on 4.2.1 it has happens intermittently just like before. How come on previous firmware there didn't used to be these annoying bugs which seem to be hanging around from version to version.

Here's my post on the Apple boards:
I'm having a similar issue with my new iPhone 4 (w/ 4.2.1)... It continually cycles through the following sequence:
AT&T / 3G
AT&T / No Data
AT&T / 3G
Here is a video of the cycling. Note the iPhone 4 is just sitting on a coffee table in my house:
"h tee tee pee" dl.dropbox "dot" com/u/7186070/ip4_fw421_searching.mov
(I can't yet post links here...)
Also worth noting, I just got the iPhone 4 and I updated it to 4.2.1 right away. Previously, I had a 3GS which did not exhibit any of this behavior in the same location in my house. Also, my girlfriend still has a 3GS and has FW 4.2.1 without these issues. I have a video of her phone in the exact same location taken just after the clip above and her phone maintains 3-bars / AT&T / 3G the entire time.
I picked up the iPhone 4 while out of state over the holiday weekend and did not observe any of these connectivity issues, in fact the 3G throughput of the iPhone 4 was significantly better (consistently got >4 Mbps down / >800 Kbps up) than what my family members were seeing with their 3GS models.
I believe it is a baseband issue introduced with the 4.2.1 update for iPhone 4, but I also strongly believe there is some tower component to this problem (ie, software revision at the tower or configuration).
Like others here, I also performed a restore to 4.2.1 through iTunes and setup my phone as "New" and I continue to see the behavior. The phone is unusable in my house unless I manually disable 3G. As a final data point, when I'm able to maintain a 3G connection long enough in my house I get the following throughput from Speedtest.net: 1863 Kbps down / 543 Kbps up.

Is anyone else having an issue with their 3gs turning off like its out of battery life once they get under 15-20% battery life remaining? This just starting happening when I upgraded to 4.2.1 . It doesn't act like it is fully out of battery life because I can turn it back on when it shuts off (but once it gets to the lock screen it turns off again) It has to be something with the battery because it works fine once I plug it in. Is the phone just not recognizing how much battery is remaining all of a sudden?
I also do cycle the battery to 0% then do a full charge a few times a month if anyone was wondering. I also charge the phone every night and sometimes at work during the day.
If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks!

Not sure if this has been mentioned:
TV Episodes loaded onto my iPhone (3GS) are no longer sorted into different shows on the main Videos screen. I only show one of my shows there, but when I click on it I get to the TV Episode screen where all of my shows are listed, alphabetically.
I used to have them separated in the main Videos screen into the different shows, then when I clicked on the show it would show only the episodes of that show, not everything.
Very, very annoying.

I'm noticing what I think a bug, Everytime since I've updated new songs on my iPhone 4 after the last update, album art will not be displayed on the lockscreen but will be fine on the music screen. It has even happened for songs I bought right off of iTunes, so I don't think it's anything that I'm doing.

Both my dad and me are getting calls failed on Vodafone UK. Have both been to Apple store and had iPhones replaced and both have new SIM cards from carrier.
Following the advice from a genius we both set up the phone as new devices but still having problem. This happens when we both have a full signal on 2g or 3g and when connected/not connected to Wi-Fi. Halfway through the call the signal will just go completely and will fail, we are then unable to retry for around 30 seconds whilst the signal is recovering.
So far today I have had 11 call failed from friends on Vodafone UK and on other networks so it has to be something local to the phone which we both have in common..... you would think!
We only have 4 apps in common..... Met Office (weather app), Highways Agency (traffic info), My Vodafone (carrier info) and Natwest (Mobile banking). I have removed all the apps and am still getting the problem which suggests it's not the apps.
We both have mulitple email accounts set up and various email methods. I have IMAP, POP and Exchange whilst he has IMAPx2 POP and Exchange. I have taken ALL my email accounts off and STILL have the problem.
Neither of us use Facetime but we have switched it on/off with no effect!
Does anyone have any idea at all! I'm loosing business because of this. I shouldn't have to use my iPhone without emails or the apps I want just to keep a phone call going! Surely there are others who use the same combination of apps/emails as we do!
I've also tried with NO personal data at all and have restored around 10 times.
Thanks for any advise at all. Really getting desparate now. I love my iPhone but can't continue with it if this keeps happening!

1. New bug to 4.2.1-- when I use my Bluetooth headset to voice dial someone, the audio of the voice dialer prompts is almost inaudible and doesn't get any louder even if I turn up the Bluetooth. However when it starts to dial the number it's much louder and the volume can be adjusted. I have tried multiple Bluetooth headsets and I have even had my iPhone replaced and it is the same behavior.
2. Also new-- I have also noticed Safari is much slower but other apps that access the internet are just as fast as before the update.
An Ongoing issue from the beginning that was the reason I had my iPhone replaced but didn't fix, I still have problems with the iPhone forgetting the router's passkey info and Bluetooth also disconnects at random.
My big question is, what is the best way to get apple to actually understand that they have problems?
It's theraputic to vent in this forum and Apple's site but it doesn't seem like anyone at apple ever chimes in on their own forum let alone anywhere else. When I have called Apple support, they act like they have no knowledge of issues that have been all over the forums and they just end up replacing the phone which doesn't even fix the problem. Only a very few annointed fanboys seem to be blessed with a personal email from Steve Jobs that acknowledges on rare occasions that, yes Apple is working on a fix to...(insert your issue).
To me it seems like Apple (Steve Jobs) is somewhat like the Emperor with No Clothes. While the iPhone is a great product overall, it seems like there are some issues that are still outstanding that they want to pretend are not there and it appears nobody wants to deal with them.
I'm not trying to get flamed here, but this is my first Apple product and from where I stand, I think a little bit of openess from Apple would go a long way if they acknowledged that they are just even looking into issues.
