What is it used for? I am not sure I understand. Doesn't all video play on Quicktime?

Not even close. There are a ton of formats that do not work with quick time.

How do you get the files onto the phone? That's what I don't get.

Not entirely sure as I have not used it, I would think that it would be most useful for the jailbreaking crowd though I could be wrong about that.

You will see the app loader in iTunes. Works the same as adding documents to iWork or PDFs to iBook.

Oh, wow this is pretty cool. I did not even know that you could do this stuff through iTunes.

When you open VLC it also gives you directions. With your iPhone connected go to the apps tab and scroll down, there is a file sharing section and VLC should be there. Then you can add files from your HDD. Neat.

Side question (off topic) - I've never used this feature before of adding files directly too apps. The only other one I have listed is Google Earth. What would I add to that?

Perhaps a plug in? I am not sure. I didn't know that google earth had that option.

Just to add........I find VLC most useful when I get a non quicktime compatible video attachment through email. Tap the attached file and VLC recognizes the format and plays the movie. It's pretty sweet.

With VLC installed I can't save a video from a email. The option to save was replaced by play with VLC. Anyone else notice this?
