Default iPhone has better service than average phone?

Does any of the iPhones get a better signal than your average AT&T phone? (aside from the iPhone 4 grip problems)

In my experience they are all about the same. I had a blackberry before the iPhone and I have not dropped any more calls then I did with my berry.

Might not be as good as the BB, but it is definitely a good phone and not a lot of dropped calls. I have friends in NYC with iPhone and BB and on other carriers and they felt it was an overblown issue that got press because of NYC...

When I first used my iPhone 4 to call my sister 2,000 miles away, the first thing she said was that it sounded like I was calling from a really clear landline. This was even before I told her I got the new iPhone! At the time I had 4 bars of 3G. This phone has remarkable clarity when the signal is abundant but when it's not, it delivers average call quality.

not to steal a little thunder from post but distance hold no place value in the current infrastructure as far as call quality, just latency between you saying it and her hearing it.

Well, I have an iphone 4 since it came out. Before that I had a BB, and before that Nokia. Iphone as a TELEPHONE absolutely SUCKS. I don't care what the signal bars show, but it drops calls constantly, i don't know if it is proximioty sensor and my face hanging up, but whatever it is, it drives me nuts. Call quality stinks compared to BB. Same for call volume and sound quality during calls. When I go to crowded places with my wife who has a BB, she can always get a call thru, I can't.
Iphone is a great device, but it seems like apple forgot about the main function, the phone.

Remember, if you live in New York or San Fransisco chances are you will get dropped calls. (then again I think the media made a huge deal over it. and many who reported such issues don't even have an issue at all.)

Nope, SF I'm fine. It's only on campus I can't connect to AT&Ts servers or other big events with lots of iPhones!

When I look at my iPhone VS a friend's dumbphone on the same network, my iPhone ALWAYS has more bars and a stronger signal. Call quality has always been amazingly good on the iPhone for me, it's far better than any Nokia I used before.

I am not in SF or NY. I am in West Palm Beach. I almost threw it in the garbage right now because of the damn phone. I was talking with someone, and suddenly the call dropped. I looked at the screen and I see that it decided to dial someone else's number. I don't think this is a network issue. I think it is my face pushing the screen. Most likely because of the crappy proximity sensor bug. I am using 4.1, I thought this was fixed.

i'm not saying they'll do it for sure, but it's worth a try

I guess I would have to put my phone back in jail for that?
Do I just uninstall limra1n for that, or is there something else I need to do? I also have ultraslow unlock.

Ok, thanks. I know this isn't the jailbreak forum, but do you know if the new one they give me will be unlock able? From what I understand, ultraslow cannot unlock the newer baseband.

Whatever! She never said that when I was using my iPhone 3G so I don't know what people are saying about the calls dropping and quality not being sufficient on the iPhone 4.
