Notifications for Whatsapp during a phone call

I've noticed now more than once that while I'm on the phone whatsapp will notify me audibly that i Have a message. I don't think the other person hears it, but is this supposed to happen? I came from blackberry where while I was on a call I would get messages but the notifications would wait until the call was over. It's sort of annoying. I don't see anything in the settings to turn off notifications when a call is going.

Ideas? I haven't yet noticed it with SMS, but I get more whatsapp notifications than SMS anyway...

I don't have whatsapp but I know when I am on a call and a regular text/email/facebook alert comes through, I do hear an alert tone in my ear during the call

you will hear alerts, the person on the recieving end, won't. so don't worry about that. set your phone to silent if you dont want audible alerts(or set them this way in settings) while on the phone
