is unlocking the same as jail breaking ?

hello . iv got a 3g that's locked to o2 and i want to use it on V phone , so if i jail break it will it be unlocked or are they 2 different things ? im not bothered about the jail break tbo as long as its unlocked

You need to jailbreak to unlock. If you looking in the jailbreak and unlock section of the forums you can learn how to do it.

No they are not the same thing. Jailbreaking is modifying the firmware to allow unsigned code to be run to gain access to files that Apple wouldn?t normally let you access. You need to jailbreak your iPhone before you can use the unlock. Since you're using an iPhone 3G, use redsn0w to jailbreak, then install ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock.
