iPhone 4.1 proximity sensor?
I was just on a call that the proximity sensor did not prevent me from muting the phone, then sending tones via the keypad, and all while holding it close to my ear. I can tell no particularly usable difference following the 4.1 update.
Does anyone have any experience with it improving with the update?.....or not?

I haven't updated the gf's phone yet and we both had the issue. I have been on 4.1GM for a while and it hasn't helped. Going to restore one more time this weekend and see if that fixes it. And update the gf's and see if it helps hers. Then if both of them are acting funky still, I can swap both. If hers is fine, we can leave hers be. Just won't have to make 2 trips.

What steps did you take to restore? My proximity sensor is better but still not fixed. I went through the phone settings = general = reset then restored from iTunes last night but haven't been on it that much today to test it out to see if the problem still exists.Steve Jobs created iCloud so he would have somewhere to go when he died and still be with Apple.

It didn't stop the proximity issue. Maybe a small band-aid
for a gigantic cut.

Mine still has the proximity issue on 4.1...had a call go into facetime today and then another go into speaker phone. Blah..."Speed has never killed anyone; suddenly becoming stationary...that's what gets you." - Jeremy Clarkson

No, it is not fixed, at least entirely. I have noticed that the screen still comes on at inappropriate times, but I have yet to have an improper hang-up or facetime call. So I guess THAT may or may not be fixed. I was very disappointed to see the screen light up when the phone was in use at my ear. So I am still using a bluetooth earpiece, although I hate doing so.
I will continue to test the proximity sensor, and if I don't have the hangup problem then I can live with the unnecessary battery drain. The battery life is great anyway.

4.1 has somewhat fixed my problem. On a rare occasion the display will still light up but I haven't muted or put anyone on speaker as of yet.
I may try a virgin install before getting a replacement. However I do find it quite ridiculous that I may have to lose all my app data, notes, saved games, preferences just to get a 100% functioning proximity sensor. Come on Apple, get your crap together.
