This isn't a for sale thread.

My friend has an iPhone 4 16 GB that he busted last week. He placed it on craigslist for 500 and I laughed at him. To me that price sounds outrageous. iPhone 4's in new condition are selling on my local craigslist between 540-600. I told him and be still won't budge.

Honestly - for someone who knows how to replace the glass, that normally isn't unreasonable. But 500 is way too high for a 16GB. A 3GS when they were new, maybe not.

Here's the difference, the 3GS and 3G - the glass and LCD were separate. This isn't the case with the iPhone 4, the glass and LCD both have to be replaced (you technically "could" replace one or the other but separating them is a pain and you'll probably break the glass or LCD in the process as they're bonded together).

Anyways, with a 3GS, you could spend less than 10 bucks and just replace the glass if the LCD was undamaged. With the iPhone 4, you have to purchase both, not just one or the other. So to pay 500 for a damaged one, then spend around 80-100 for a new glass/LCD kit, you're already what it costs outright.

Does he realize an iPhone 4 16GB outright isn't much more than 600 outright after tax?

I'm wondering more about buyers from markets where the ip4 isn't available as a new purchase. Are there many of those left?

Apple will replace the screen for $99... so while it seems high to me, it's not incredibly outrageous to some...

heh...wouldn't that be nice. Try $199...and that was for the 3G/3GS, not sure if that carried over to the iP4.

...as far as the original post, yes, $500 for a broken iPhone 4 is kinda high, not ridiculous really, but kinda high. Given the prices on eBay though, youd think these things were limited production, lol. Makes me want to start an auction! :)

He's going to use the $$$ to buy some weed, right? It sure sounds like he's been smoking some really good stuff if he thinks he's gonna get $500 for a BROKEN iPhone 4!
