How do I add a custom text message sound

my wife changed the notification settings which changed the sound for text messages only - the sounds for other notifications continued to be what they were.

Yes, you can change the text message to one ofthe preinstalled tones. But to the OP's original question, no you can't add custom sounds for SMS or any other notification except ringtones for calls.

How what? To change your SMS tone go to settings - sounds - new message sound. There are 8 or so preinstalled sounds.

Custom ringtones...google iringer. It's a free program. It's quite easy to use.

I saw on the main page this morning that you will be able to select individual sounds for contact, but it didn't say anything about custom ones. I guess we will find out in November when 4.2 drops.

They are saying now that there isn't the option...YET. It may pop up in another beta version or even the final version. We'll see...time will tell...
