portrait orientation locked/unlocked?

does anyone know what this mean? just curious as i stumbled upon it on the multi-task bar when i slid left instead of right...i can't click to "close" it but when i press it to lock it shows up (the same little icon, lock with circle arrow around it) on top of the bar next to the battery icon.......

if the lock is inside the circle then the phone orientation is locked.

When it's locked it means that your phone is locked to the portrait orientation and that turning the phone sideways will not rotate the view to landscape.
