The Lie of "More Bars In More Places"
I simply love how Apple, with the 4.0.1 update, completely debunked the AT&T business motto "More Bars In More Places". We now know that the only reason there were more bars is because of the uneven distribution of the dB range across those bars. What was once a 5th bar, on the iOS 4.0.1, is now either a high 3rd, 4th, or 5th, and any display of a 5th bar is a much more real indication of a great signal.
Anandtech put up a good article with a chart comparing the iPhone 4 (running 4.0 and 4.0.1) and an Android 2.2 device, and their apparent signal bar distribution.
My question is, if the signal on Android 2.2 or iOS 4.0 was below -113, what would those devices show? Would they display "No Service"?
