wish apple had kept the 3GS design
I think the iphone 4 looks great. But it doesn't feel great with the edges after using it for a bit. And i'm weary of where i lay the phone down with the back being glass. A bumper or case makes this better. Since i need a case to make it comfortable to use, i can't really say that is good design.
I would have much preferred the 3GS design with all the goodies like retina screen & cameras. Much more comfortable to use and no need for a case. I wouldn't have to wait for updated accessories either.
I understand Apple wanted to tweak it some to make it look different. That could've been done with different colors or something. But why a drastic fix to what really wasn't broken? - 06-28-2010, 11:37 AM #2
Sorry but I have to disagree. The older phones now look bloated and dated honestly. This is a fresh new look and you'll just have to adjust to the feel. You're going to see a lot of other devices mimic this design.

I think it looks great like i said. I don't care about looks but how usable it is. It doesn't feel as comfortable to use (with no case) IMO. And i'm still wondering why it needed a glass back.
I also think the iphone 4 is the best phone out there (despite the metal edges) by far but keeping the 3GS form factor would've made it even better. - 06-28-2010, 11:48 AM #6
The 3GS was dated plus the bezel scrathed super easy even with cases on it.

Not sure I'd keep the form factor exactly the same as the 3GS but I understand what you're saying. Although it's thinner the sharp edges just don't feel as natural than curved edges in my hand.

Curved edges = naked phone slips out of hand easily
The new design is much welcomed. - 06-28-2010, 12:12 PM

Maybe i'll feel different with more time. Thanks for the comments.

Personally curved edges let me contact the back with more surface area from my hand. And the plastic of the old design had a bit more grip than the glass of the iphone 4. It's much more slippery to me. This has nothing to do with aesthetics though. The new design quickly grew on me and makes previous devices look like a toy.

Definitely disagree. When it first leaked, I wasn't in
full approval. Now that I've had time with the i4, I
think it's one of the best designed smartphone out
now, including the 3g/3gs design. IMO, the Nexus 1
is 2nd, then the 3g/3gs.

For me, the iPhone 4 is much easier to hold on to without a case. I think it looks better and feels better. The curved back made it a little difficult to type a quick message while it was lying on a surface. The new flat back make it much easier.

I like the new design, but also would have liked to see the iphone mimic the ipad design, it would have looked nice and slick with that same curved aluminum backing, I thought that that is what they would do for the iPhone 4, but seeing as the metal was a problem for reception and all, it is interesting, but cool.

love the new design! would be nice if someone sold a case to disguise it as a 3GS (just for kicks)

iPhone 4 is so god damned beautiful, in fact this is the iPhone I've really been waiting for since day one. The glass and stainless steel is so much more durable. No more scratches (unless you are a dropper). Also, I'm in love with the all-white version, even if the proximity sensor is visible..

I didn't like the round back from the flat back on the 2G and I think this phone looks incredible! I'm careful with it because I think it's so nice looking and I want to keep it that way. I just have to disagree- it's really a sharp looking device! I love it!

I can see what you are aaying after going from the 3GS design to the iPhone 4 it doesn't feel great at first. I still can't take home an Iphone 4 but I have used it many times and at first I didn't like the feel but then I got used to it. May not be good without a case but you should have a case anyways(or a bumper).

I have to say I enjoyed my iPhone 3GS, but the iPhone 4 is a master piece. I have no issues holding it comfortably in my hand. I honestly thought that maybe an issue, but I've been very surprised that it feels great and I am able to use the phone without issue.
I like the way it sits flat on a desk. I think it even looks good with the bumper or some of the really clean looking cases. - 06-28-2010, 09:00 PM #24
This one looks decent.. but its a lot harder for me to hold than the 3GS was. Because it is thinner I find it a big pain for me in portrait since I've got big hands.

Been using without a case for a few days since i fixed the tomtom carkit to work. (apply velcro or foam at the bottom of kit..easy).
It's growing on me.
