How to turn off the iPod application

I know this sounds silly, but . . .

How do you "kill" the iPod application on the iPhone.

It continues to play after I switch to another application.

If I pause it and then go to another app, apparently the iPod is still taking up memory.

Hold down the power button until "slide to power off" shows (while in the iPod app).

Then hold down the home button.

This will kill the app.
