IPhone stuck in low battery

I have been charging my iphone 3gs for over 3hours now and all I see on the screen is a battery with a little red in it,with a z-like sign below.
This is after my jbroken phone has been forced to upgrade to 3 1 3 via restore.
What does this portend?

In simple English,this iphone is not charging........

Restore and set it up as new. Do not restore from backup.

This iphone is dead,itunes doesn't see it.
Has anybody out there experienced this?

Put it in DFU-Mode. Don't know what DFU-Mode is? Search the forum, Google it or check YouTube to see how it's done

Before you restore and all that , try this . Find a lone outlet in your house , nothing else plug into it . Plug the apple adapter and cord in and see if this helps . If not try a restore.

And don't forget to try a simple reset first. It's amazing how well that cures a myriad of ailments.

if your phone isn't seen by the computer the usb driver can't load properly which is required to get enough power running over usb for it to charge.

unless you're charging direct to wall power at which I would try a different power brick or cable first.

it's also possible you have a bad battery. when lithium ion ones die they don't charge/hold a charge
