mboxmail question

Ok so I Dld mboxmail. Does this work like the mail app that came with the phone? Do i have to open the app to get mail or will it notify me when a msg comes in like on the original mail app? that would be kind of annoying if I had to open it every couple of hours to see if i had an new email. I know it has "push" but not exactly sure what that means

Apps that have push will notify you of a new event. Check your settings to set up your notifications with badges, sounds, or popups.
