Locked out of my Iphone. Don't have AT&T and it wont let me use phoen without it

Well see I've been using this iphone for Music so I've been using it as a ipod. I bought it off a friend.
My Iphone is Stuck on the Slide for emergency screen And its showing a Picture for me to connect to itunes so i do and itunes is telling me to activate my "new" iphone with AT&T when i plug into Itunes but i don't have AT&T what do i do?
I knew i should have never done the update that had the Cut and past features.. after i updated the Software it did this.. Now i cant Listen to music. Please help me Thank you so much

Not sure if this will help but try taking the sim card out and then hook it up. Why do you want to have an iPhone only as an iPod?

Also, have you tried the soft reset technique? Holding down the home and power button down until the apple logo appears? Again try it with no sim card.

This is where you get service with ATT or wait for the next unlock to come out
