How to replace the 3g volume button?

if you're still under warranty bring it to the apple store & get a replacement...

yeah, that has mess written all over it! all that to replace a broken volume button, my luck i would screw something else up in the process. you might be better off if you're not very technically inclined to send it in to some of the online services that fix iphones for you.

Might be worth it just to buy a new one, should be eligible for the upgrade price by now. Sell the old one as is.

I have used ifixit.com to replace many things in my old iphones and in fact did a complete swap of cases. That required every piece being removed and put together. Took awhile, but it worked. Steady hands is what you need.
