iphone i pod issues

Have this wierd problem when im using the pandora app, if i hook it up say to my radio through a cable, i also have a adaptor which i bought just for this purpose, if im playin the pandora app and have the music going, my music on my ipod will just jump in and play, and cut off the pandora music, also when i do play my ipod music it will cut off and on, it does not do this if i am just playing music with out hooking it up, like if i just play it through the speaker on the iphone itself, I have the 1st gen i phone, if anyone can help that would be great,

I'm pretty sure the iPod app comes up when you plug in headphones or an auxiliary cable or other adaptors. I have the same problem in my car, however, I do own a Zune which I've never had any issue with and I use it 99% of the time when travelling for music...i'm a blasphemer...i know.
