Apss not opening

Hi - I'm a new iphone owener about 2 months - my apps that I downloaded are not opening. Can anyone advise what I need to do. I did the reset already and that did not help. (held both buttons, one on top the other on the face of the phone, till the apple appeared) Any other pointers would be great. Thanks so much.

If you can open the App store on the phone, download and install any free app. Then open it. Should do the trick.
