How to end task?

Just wondering how to end task/close an app that isn't responding.

I read on apple.com/support that you had to hold down home for 6 seconds but that seems pre-3.0.

Quick answer -- hold down sleep/wake button until "slide to power off" appears. Then hold down home button until all apps force quit
