Backing Up Your iPhone

I've run into a potentially big problem here. What exactly is saved when you backup your iphone before doing an upgrade like 3.0?

Situation: My laptop died a few weeks ago, so I used a friend's computer to do my 3.0 upgrade. My iphone then developed boot problems requiring a restore to fix it while on vacation, which meant I had to use a different computer than the one I used for the 3.0 upgrade.

When I get home and restore from the friend's computer where my backup exists, what exactly will I be getting back? I don't care about the music right now, I can handle that by ripping everything off my ipod. I'm mainly worried about my contact and photos. Were those part of the backup???

How do you access the backup on the computer? I am running IT8.2 on Win7.

If you are trying to put a backup onto your iPhone restore it and it will ask you.

I was thinking maybe the other files on the phone were stored on a specific computer in the same way your music generally stays in one place. Sometimes I really enjoy being wrong!
