iphone notes database corrupted

My notes database has been corrupted. I cannot enter notes on the phone. Any attempt to enter notes, or display the single note (a test from over a year ago) causes notes to crash (disappear from the screen).

This corrupted database is in my backup. If I do a "Restore" from itunes, then sync again, the corrupted database is restored.

How can I remove the corrupted database from my backup?

Try restoring to a new phone, but you'll lose all your info and contacts..
