Why does wifi suck?! Everyone raves how fast it is. Edge is so much faster. If I am in google and do a search then wifi is fast but clicking on a new website it takes forever. My computer is fast as hell. Not sure why but iphone sucks on wifi. Is there something I am doing wrong?

If EDGE is faster than your Wifi then there is a problem. Wifi is faster than 3G, which is fast than EDGE. Do you live near anyone else that has wifi and accidently connect to there network? Otherwise I have no clue why it's so slow, might have something to do with your iPhone or your other wifi accessories.

I am not connected to another wifi except my own. I used my last name to name my internet. It shows its connected to my internet. I do know there are a few wifi neighnors here and I can see there connections on my pc but I am connected to my network on both pc and iphone. Its been like this since day one. I did not know wifi was faster than 3G. Wow. I can't even connect to itunes on my iphone because it uses wifi and and it keeps timing out.

WOW!!!!! It's amazing that some people are having bad luck with WiFi. I have no problem at all with my WiFi. I love it. I dont know if there's something you can do about it, but there is absolutely no reason that EDGE, or 3g should EVER, EVER be faster than WiFi.

I'm with u E G, my wifi always times out or goes to 3g or edge. Of course mine is jailbroke so that might be part of the reason, but i can't figure it out.

I had a old iPhone that would not stay connected to my wifi connection here at home. Brought it back and they exchanged it, no questions asked.

This may be a simple question but what color is your WiFi indicator? Blue or grey? How many "(((" are blue/grey?

Additionally, I had this problem when I first got my iPhone: Are you sure you entered the right password for your network (it is often a 10 digit number found on your wireless router.) I accidentally mistyped my password (too many numbers!!!) and the iPhone never mentioned that I did this. I thought WiFi was broken/having problems/etc. until I realized what had happened and had the iPhone "forget" the WiFi connection, connected to it again and typed the right password.

It's strange that the iPhone does not mention that the password is wrong and just lets you assume you are connected and all is well.

Mine is blue and two bars. You know I was wondering about that password word part because mine is password protected and it never asked me for a password! It just shows its connected. I can't even find a place to enter the password! However I find it strange I can connect to google although very slooooww. If it can connect it means its running on the wifi with no password?

This may be obvious but have you "forget this network" and tried setting it up again?

I just did that and typed in the password and it shows me connected now with the lock next to it meaing I am on my secure network. I typed in the pass and I still have the same problem, its very slow almost like it won't load the page. I hate the idea of getting a new iphone when I finally have everything setup.

My question would be do you have any other devices on you wireless network at this time? Which you probably do, hence the reason for the wireless network. Maybe you should try adding another new device, like a friends laptop, ideally someone elses iPhone, or something to see how that device responds to your wireless network. If other devices add to your network with no problem then it may be your iPhone. Or, you could try going to a Starbucks or somewhere where you can get free WiFi and see how you iPhone works there.

On a different not I don't think your WiFi signal indicator being grey or blue has nothing to do with anything. I think the color of the indicator depends strictly on the color of your background. Same for your regular Edge or 3G signal strength bars. For instance on your main menu it'll be grey because of the black background and the Wi-Fi indicator will be blue, when your are in Safari, because the background strip in grey. Am I missing something with this??

I know its not my network that is the problem because I can connect anything and it works flawlessly. I think its the phone.

Yeah, I would exchange it too. I had to exchange mine the other for an issue with my camera. The only painful part in the entire process was when I had to call Apple Support and go through all the motions of resetting and restoring with a clueless tech support specialist after I had already done everything 2-3 times on my own already. Once we were done with that, he set up an appointment for me at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store of my choice. I was in and out of there the next day with my new phone in about 10 minutes. Good luck with your exchange.
