Will the new 2.0.1 brick an unlocked iPhone with 2.0?

I'm thinking about buying a first gen iPhone for my mom. I wanted to buy one off of ebay that wasn't unlocked but problem is almost all the first gens are unlocked. If I bought an unlocked first gen with 2.0 and upgraded it to the new 2.0.1. software would it brick? She already has an account with AT&T so she doesn't qualify for the upgrade price of the 3G that's why she wants the first gen plus data is cheaper.

Thank you in advance and looking forward to everybody's answers!

No, it would be fine. All you have to do is restore it to the latest firmware and it would lock it back up. It would be fresh. No problems. Good luck!

Thanks Bad Ash, how would I go about doing that? Just hook it up to iTunes?

Yeah, when you connect to iTunes it will ask you to update. If auto updates is on. Let it do it's thing and it will update you and re-lock the phone at the same time. Then go ahead and put in the sim card from your moms phone and activate it via iTunes. Simple.
