Email Problem

I just got my iphone two days ago and its working fine so far, but the only problem it seems to have is that it never shows if I have new emails, in order for me to find out if I have new mail is to go into the mail application it self. Do you guys know how I can fix it so it shows it on the home screen?

what mail service are you using?

gmail will only check once every 15 minutes or greater... are you trying to check within that time frame... and make sure your email download settings are not set to MANUAL or it will NOT check on its own, it would only check when it is prompted to do so within the mail app

How do I find out if it is set to manual?

in Settings >> Fetch New Data >> its under there.. you have to twiddle with it a bit...
