Should You Upgrade iPhone Before Getting 3g

I'm almost to the "can't wait" stage of 3g fandom, but it just dawned on me...once I upgrade from iPhone to iPhone 3g, I won't be able to upgrade the iPhone to OS 2. Do you think I need to exercise restraint and get 2.0 working on the old handset first? My fear is that an iTunes connection after the switch will result in bricking my old iPhone.

I'm sorry, but I really have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying Apple won't let you upgrade to 2.0 on an original iPhone if you purchase a 3G iPhone?

It won't make a difference. Once you plug your current phone into your computer on July 11, before or after your sync the 3g, it will ask you to upgrade to the latest firmware. It won't hurt anything.

But will it upgrade the OS to 2.0 without a SIM? I'm afraid it will try to "activate" the iPhone which will brick it. hasn't that been a problem for folks trying to use their iPhone's as if they were iTouches?
