Did the actual release date for 2.0 get mentioned? Did Jobs and company specifically state that it would be July 11th? Or did they leave at "Early July"?
Looks like June 27 will be the release date: http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/08/06/11/iphone.20.before.3g/
Perhaps. Reads to me like two different issues. We could still get Rel. 2.0 before the Apps Store opens. As someone suggested above, it would spread the load on the servers.Looks like the AU site messed up. July 11 is the date.

Everyone who has a first generation iPhone will upgrade to Rel. 2.0 as soon as it is available and then download new applications. One does not have to have a 3G to use the new software.Load on the servers? Is this refering to people accessing the App Store or people downloading the software? If it is for the App Store, it makes sense. If it is for the 2.0 software, it does not make sense because the iPhone 3G probably already comes with 2.0 loaded.
