I just left Best Buy in Cincinnati (fields ertel area) and pre-ordered a 16 GB White iphone 4. I'm SOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!! I thought I wasnt going to be able to get a white one. I was the 1st person to pre-order I was there at 10:01am.

You are right. The only reason why I believe Best Buy MAY have them is because Apple even isn’t letting you pre-order it online. Best Buy is letting you pre-order them. I'm not sure what the Apple store is saying. It's a crap shoot, but at least I pre-ordered it and it clearly states on my receipt that I ordered white so I'm hoping that if they don’t come out I can exchange when they do since I didn’t get what I pre-ordered. We shall see. I just know I cant wait until next Thursday!!!!

If they don't come out with white, they won't be giving you a black one to exchange when white comes out.... they'll just make you wait til they come in, or you can cancel that order and get a black one. So you will get what you pre-ordered, just maybe not on the 24th.

I can confirm that the OP is correct. Best Buy is taking "pre-orders" for the white phone. All on taken via pen and paper so we'll see...

I preordered the white from BB this morning. The manager told me if the white didn't come in I could exchange my order for the black or wait. We'll see what happens next week.

Best Buy will promise you the world if it means they can tie up your money with them. Stores like this survive on the ol' bait-n-switch. But I sincerely hope I'm wrong and you guys get your white iPhones.

I just ordered 2 iPhones from Best Buy. The sales rep told me the same thing that the white phone is available on the 24th. My guess is that if you can't order it through apple you can't get it anywhere. If you order a white one you will be unable to switch to a black one on the 24th if its not available.

Each order scanned in represents the amount of phones to be shipped so switching out would throw there inventory out of whack.

I hope I'm wrong and they will have what apple will not.

I called the Best Buy I pre-ordered from and they told me that they have no way of knowing exactly how many phones they will get in on launch day. I was told that because I was the first pre order there this morning at 10am I will 110% have a iphone 4 on launch day. Rather it's white or black they can’t say, but because I paid my money and pre-ordered with them that they will have a phone assigned for me. They will give me the option to switch to black or I can have the option to wait for the white phone on June 24th. I think that's fair of them.

That's good. At least they won't hold you to the white one if they're not available.
