Anyone managed to unlock with a non-AT&T SIM in the phone

I've seen a few other people in this situation. I upgraded from 3GS to 4S and now trying to unlock 3GS. AT&T sent me confirmation email. However I cannot complete the restore because I have no SIM in the phone. I can see 2 options:

1- buy adapter to put my new microSIM from 4S in the 3GS
2- try to unlock with a non-AT&T SIM (I have access to T-Mobile)

I have tried #2 but it doesn't work for me ("not a valid SIM").

Has anyone had success with either approach?
Please share details. Thanks!

hi

Today, 4/8/12, I called AT&T to unlock my contract free 3GS. Took 30 minutes on T's end to get the unlock code, and only 5 minutes to perform a backup and restore via iTunes. Interestingly enough, the phone number shows as NA in the iTunes screen. Same IMEI and ICCID if you click on the same spot.

Unlock Request

Hey everyone.

I live in Canada and purchased iPhones for me and my wife.
Before I purchased them I read up on unlocking, and even called T to find out that if I'm not an AT&T account holder that they would run the IMEI number and check the status of the previous owner of the phone.

I ordered two used phones on ebay and called AT&T. They opened a case and it would take about 8 days. I called after 12 and the guy I spoke to said the policy has changed and that the unlock requester HAS to be a current or past AT@T customer.

Would any of you be able to help me out and request the unlock for these phones?
You can email me at kevinbuzz@shaw.ca

Thank you.

I'm having problems with not being a current AT&T customer as well. I was on AT&T previously, but never had the iPhone on it. They said that their policy has changed and that the unlock is only for current customers. Any ideas on what I could do?

I had trouble unlocking my phone via AT&T as I wasn't a customer of theirs, but why are all these sites offering factory unlocking service at so many different prices? Mostly are $100 and more, which seem ridiculous when there are sites offering the same service at $45.

For instance, http://globalunlockcodes.com (the one I used) offers the service at $45. Yeah, I wish I'd pay nothing instead, but $45 isn't much to ask for considering that the rest of us non-AT&T consumers have no other option for getting our phones permanently unlocked.

You can unlock your iPhone 4 using the site Mobileunlocksolutions.com.
It gives the unlock codes and the step by step instructions for unlocking by
giving your IMEI no. It gives unlock services at reliable cost.

Just unlocked my iPhone 4S 64GB AT&T via apples database with negri Electronics, check them out here:

Remote Unlocking for AT&T Apple iPhone (Permanent) (24 Hour Service)

Enter in coupon code of MODMYUNLOCK and you will get this 24 hour unlock service for $20.00 total. I do believe its AT&T Only telling me they have someone on the inside with AT&T sending the IMEI numbers to apple getting them unlocked. Either way well worth $20.00.

Got my Confirmation email that I was unlocked in about 25 hours after purchasing and restored in iTunes and got the "Congratulations your unlocked Message"!!!!

Anyone with AT&T should first try to get their iPhone unlocked through AT&T before trying any of these sites. It is free and quick and easy. AT&T unlocked my 4S last night for free in less than 15 minutes.

According to the info that is posted in the following link a person would have to meet their contractual agreement for the iPhone that is being unlocked. If they were leaving AT&T and paid the ETF they would be eligible to have it unlocked as well.

So is your 4S off-contract right now? Or did you get around that somehow?
