I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue. My wife has an iPhone 3GS. It has been shutting off unexpectedly lately. The way to most reliably recreate the issue is by recording video. You can start the video recording, but when you push the button to stop recording the phone frequently shuts off completely and you have to restart it. And then other times it will just shut off at completely random times. The battery shouldn't be the issue because it will do it plenty of power remaining.
Any ideas? I recently upgraded it to iOS 4.3, but the issue was happening before that. I was hoping the update would solve the problem, but it didn't.
