What firmware does the Iphone 3gs come with?

Okay so i just bought a iphone 3g 8gb for my girlfriend because shes going to get me a Iphone 3Gs with her contract because she doesnt care about the speed difference and what not. The one thing though is i need to unlokc the 3gs and is it even unlockable what softwear does it come with is it unlockable? Thanks

At this point the 3GS is probably coming with 3.1 and no, you're not going to be able to jailbreak & unlock that at this point.

Well even if you can't unlock it, unless you've updated the 3G to 3.1 through Itunes you will have the option of letting her use the 3Gs and take the 3G, JB/Unlock it. It's not the optimal solution but at this time I don't see much other options with what you've done.

Check Settings > General > About > Version.

If it is 3.1 then you will not be able to jailbreak and unlock. If it is 3.0 or 3.01, then you will be able to use redsn0w to jailbreak and unlock.
